Our Board



Jane Jeffreys

Jane was elected as the first Non-Executive Chair of Data Action Board in July 2016. She is an accomplished Board Director and experienced businesswoman with extensive board, executive and consulting expertise across the private, public and not-for-profit sectors.

In addition to her role as Facilitator for the Australian Institute of Company Directors, Jane has more than 30 years’ experience as an Executive, Chief Executive, Director and Chair of organisations in Tourism, Hospitality, Gaming, Education, Aged Care, Financial Services, Arts and Sport.

Her current Board appointments include Director of Funds SA, Director of Iocane Pty Ltd, Chair of West Beach Trust (Adelaide Shores), Chair of Gaming Care (Australian Hotels Association Early Intervention Agency), and Chair of Guildhouse. 


Wayne Matters

Wayne joined the Board in 2005 having served as both Director and Chairman as well as the Chairman of the Audit & Risk Committee. He has 29 years experience in finance, treasury, risk management and administration and is currently the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Beyond Bank Australia, having joined as Chief Financial Officer in 2001, where he manages a number of corporate support functions.

Wayne holds a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting and a Graduate Certificate in Business Administration and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia, a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Director and a Fellow of the Australasian Mutuals Institute. Wayne is also a Director of Community CPS Services Pty Ltd and Beyond Employee Benevolent Fund Pty Ltd.


John Yardley

John joined the Board of Data Action in 2011 and is the Chief Operating Officer and Deputy CEO at Bank Australia.

John's diverse career includes more than a decade in the Australian banking industry as well as senior roles in corporate advisory, politics and contract management. At Bank Australia, John is responsible for retail and business banking, lending, insurance and wealth. This includes product, service, systems development and administration, distribution, customer service channels and processing centres. He is also charged with developing and managing the banks digital product and service delivery.

John holds a Master of Business Administration and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.



Grant Strawbridge

Grant joined the Board in 2012 with over 25 years Executive/Senior Management experience within the mutual sector in Australia. He is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Credit Union SA Ltd.

Grant's experience includes managing corporate strategic initiatives relating to mutual mergers, organisational transformation and design, large entity acquisitions, organisation wide re-engineering programs, enterprise wide risk management programs and finance, technology and balance sheet management.

Grant has a Bachelor of Arts in Accountancy and is a Fellow of the Certified Practicing Accountants, Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, Fellow of FINSIA and a Director of the Credit Union Pageant Company.


Steve Laidlaw

Steve was appointed the Chief Executive Officer of People’s Choice Credit Union in January 2016, having previously been the organisation’s Chief Financial Officer since 2012. He has significant people leadership and General Management experience in the retail banking and finance industry. He also previously held the Chief Financial Officer role with Rural Bank, now a part of the Bendigo and Adelaide Bank Group of Companies, for approximately seven years.

Steve has degrees in Economics and Commerce and has completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School. He is also a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and a fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.


Andrew Hadley

A strong advocate for the customer owned banking model, Andrew commenced as CEO for P&N Bank in January, 2014. Having completed a Bachelor of Commerce he is also a Senior Fellow Member of Finsia and a Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Andrew now leads a dynamic team of over 300 staff and is active in the everyday running of the business.

With a background that includes significant leadership roles with Australia’s largest mutual banking organisation, Credit Union Australia, Andrew has held several General Management roles in Strategy & Marketing, Operations, Member Relations & Advice and Sales & Distribution
